Artist’s statement:

My art takes many forms. Sometimes I try to make statements about life, humankind, the world and my place in it.  And sometimes I just make things. I create what wasn’t there before. I have discovered that the most valuable asset that I have is courage.

Wendy has been creating works of art and teaching for over 25 years.  Primarily self-taught, she studied for years with PBS Series Instructor and Award Winning painter Barclay Sheaks, and nationally known artists Pat Dews, John Barber, Pat Moss, Nita Leland and others.  She has won numerous awards and ribbons in juried shows for her collages and paintings and her work is in collections across the US and Europe.  Wendy has been honored with a one-woman show; was a nominee for the coveted Alli Award; and received recognition in the International Art Expo held in New York City.  Her past experience also includes costume and set design for music videos for Grammy winning artists.

In addition to being the founding director of the Bay School Cultural Arts Center, http://www.bayschool-arts.com/, a thriving arts and education center in Virginia, Wendy continues to work as a  consultant, designing programs, teaching, providing professional development to educators and grant writing. Past clients include the Central Park Conservancy, Salvadori Center, Delaware Youth Center and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

As a teaching artist Wendy’s has taught students of all ages from kindergarten to college. She has also worked with underserved populations such as mentally challenged students, at-risk children and teens, and seniors.  She is a published author for School Arts Magazine.
